Health, Safety and Housekeeping Rules

In principle all users of the church building should examine their activities and use of premises to identify risks to health and safety and seek to minimise those risks. If significant risks are identified regarding the property, users of the premises should notify a property steward.

General notes to reduce risk

  • All external doors must be unlocked when premises are in use and, at other times, all emergency exits in proximity to a particular meeting must be available for immediate use.
  • No smoking is permitted anywhere in the premises and no alcohol is permitted.
  • In the event of a fire, the premises should be evacuated in an orderly manner using the most appropriate Exits and the Fire Brigade should be called, dialling 999. You are advised to bring a mobile telephone for use in an emergency. (For full information please see our separate Fire Procedure document and the Plan adjacent to the Fire Panel)
  • Familiarise yourself with the locations of the Fire Alarms and Extinguishers. The use of any Fire fighting equipment or damage to the equipment must be reported immediately.
  • Damage to any of the property or the contents must be reported to the Property Steward.
  • No item of equipment or furniture should be taken off the premises without prior permission.
  • To comply with PAT legislation no personal electrical item should be used on the church premises without prior knowledge and permission from the Property Steward.
  • The maximum seating figure for events in the Large Hall is 150 and should not be exceeded.
  • Care should be taken when folding and unfolding chairs. Folded chairs should be put away on the racks provided and securely strapped. They should not be lent against walls.
  • The kitchen and the stage area in the main hall are out of bounds to all children.
  • Care should be taken with hot drinks in the halls.
  • The First Aid box is located on the shelf outside the kitchen. Accidents (involving any injury) must be recorded in the Accident book, next to the First Aid Box and the Accident must be brought to the attention of the Caretaker or a Property Steward.

Good House Keeping

Use of Premises

  • O No items of value should be left unattended. Any items are left at owners risk as are Cars (and their contents) left in the Church car parks.
  • All food items should be stored appropriately in airtight containers in the cupboards or in the fridge.
  • All electrical equipment should be unplugged when not in use. In addition kettles should be emptied of water. Please pay particular attention to the "Switch Off list" in the kitchen.
  • Used nappies should not be left in the premises but may be placed in the external bins.

Vacating the premises

  • Please leave the rooms clean and tidy, wiping down any tables, sweeping floors and replacing any furniture moved.
  • Ensure all doors and windows are closed at the end of the meeting.
  • Switch off lights.
  • Make sure someone locks all external doors once the premises are empty.
