Not just Sundays

How do we live in service to God throughout the week, in all aspects of our lives, not just attending church

Rowlands Gill Community Centre

The Centre was built in 1928 by the Lilley Drift Colliery as a community hall for the local miners. It was extended in 1930 and was used for dances, whist drives, bazaars, the WI, the Library and also as the child welfare clinic. The building is owned by Gateshead Council but is run by a group of local people: an executive committee and a larger management committee, made up from members of groups who use it. Each member within a group pays a small fee making them a member of Rowlands Gill Community Association, giving advantageous rents for regular meetings.

Good Gym

GoodGym arose out of a frustration with normal gyms being a waste of energy and human potential. The project rapidly developed by a team of wonderful people won first prize at the Social Innovation Camp in 2008. A pilot project was launched in Tower Hamlet in 2009.

What exactly does Good Gym do?

1. We run in groups to do physical tasks for community organisations.

2. We run to make social visits to isolated older people who we call our “coaches”

Spring Synod

Strathmore Road Methodist Church is part of the South-West Tyneside Circuit, a family of 14 churches which seek to support each other. The circuit runs west from Durham Road out along the south bank of the Tyne to Ryton and south as far as Burnopfield and Sunniside. The circuit is in turn part of the Newcastle Methodist District which takes in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and the northern part of County Durham.

God and Technology - Reading the Word

How can technology bring us closer to God?  For about five and a half years, I have been using an app called YouVersion, which offers a comprehensive way to access the Bible.  I primarily use it for my regular bible reading on my tablet, where I use the bookmark functionality to save my place in the New Testament and Old Testament as I make my way through the Bible.  Using this, I can easily pick up where I left off on my phone if I am out and about.
